| 2751 | Obituary - May Martin - May 27, 1917 – May 5, 2008 - It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of (Helen) May Martin on Monday, May 5, 2008. May was the beloved wife of the late Cecil Martin. She is survived by her sister, Connie MacDonald, her seven children, Jack Martin, Larry Martin (and Betty), Connie Sue Robinson (and Joe), David Martin, Joanne Kirk (and Doug), Joe Martin (and Dianne) and Mary Martin (and Joan). She was the sister of the late Clarence Cookson (and Jean of Mount Bridges) and Bill Cookson (Port Burwell). She was a sister-in-law to Lucy Martin and Leota Scofield. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. She was the proud grandmother of many special grandchildren and great grandchildren. May’s birthplace in 1917 was Port Burwell. She returned there often to see the lighthouse, visit family and reminisce. Some of May’s best years were the years she spent with the love of her life, Cecil Martin. It seemed every day was an adventure. Together, they created a family, they travelled, they laughed and they endured the tough times. After Cecil’s passing, her eyes would sparkle when she would recall the times they enjoyed with one another. May was a devoted family person. She was supportive, committed and always interested in how everyone was doing. Even with a large family, she had a unique bond with each family member and a gift for making each one feel special. She loved nothing better than celebrating with her family over a delicious feast complete with coffee and desserts! While continuing to raise a family, May worked outside the home for some years as well. She was a Legal Secretary at Winter’s Law Firm in Simcoe. She worked at the Children’s Aid in Simcoe, too. Later, she managed the Port Dover Credit Union, an endeavour close to her heart. In her final work phase, she owned and operated the Dover Wool Shop. She loved wool and knitting, and there wasn’t a grandchild or great-grandchild who ever went without a baby sweater as long as she could still knit. Other hobbies of hers included cooking, some travelling, sewing, crocheting, and adorning her creations with Artex paints. She enjoyed music, flowers and laughter. A special thank you to Doctor Wong and to Dover Cliffs for their care for May in her last years. Funeral Service will be held at Thompson Waters Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Murray Rounding officiating. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. For those wishing donations to Grace United Church or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. On-line condolences can be e-mailed to waters@nornet.on.ca. | Cookson, Helen Mae (I20149)
