| 5252 | Jeremy Hoover http://www.jeremyhooverministry.com/ I have been the minister at the Otisville Church of Christ in Otisville, Michigan since December 2011. My main responsibilities are preaching and teaching and to help with spiritual and leadership development. My sermons are available each week on my blog. I may also be available for speaking engagements on a limited basis. If you are interested in me speaking to your group, please contact me through my contact page. I grew up in Windsor, Ontario where I learned the faith at the Westside Church of Christ. There, I cut my teeth in ministry during my high school years through song leading, leading at the Lord's Supper table, and teaching and preaching. I was fortunate to learn from, and later to work with, a great group of elders that included my grandfather and also my father. I was educated at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. At Rochester College I met my wife, Devon. We married in 1999 after I graduated summa cum laude in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in religious education. After our wedding, we moved to Memphis, Tennessee so I could attend the Harding Graduate School of Religion (1999-2001). During this time, Devon worked to support us while I studied for two years focusing on the study of homiletics (preaching). When our time in Memphis was over, we moved to St. Joseph, Michigan, where I worked in youth ministry with the Church of Christ in St. Joseph (2001-2003). There, I organized and led a start-up youth ministry. Following this, we moved back to Windsor because of a family illness. While in Windsor, I served as an assistant minister for the Westside Church of Christ (2004-2005), where I organized and guided a small-groups ministry. When the time was right, we moved to Jackson, Michigan to work with the Horton Road Church of Christ. Additionally, while in Jackson, I taught two semesters of "Introduction to Youth Ministry" at Rochester College (in 2006 and 2008). In October 2011 I accepted an offer to work with the Otisville Church of Christ as their preacher. I seek to be transformative in my preaching by staying close to the gospel and to the biblical text while demonstrating how the world and story of the bible is at work in our world today. I apply the bible by inviting listeners to enter into the story of the bible that God is calling them to. One writer has called the bible a ?five-act drama? of which we only have the first four acts; we must improvise the fifth based on our knowledge of the first four dramatic acts. I seek to elaborate and encourage this in my preaching. My ministry philosophy is to be as simple as possible in following Jesus. I want to follow him, not tradition. I want my faith to be focused on Jesus and daily growth and transformation, to build Christian friendships of mutual encouragement and love, and to be a servant to others so they can see, learn, and love the light of Jesus. I believe this is the one calling for all Christians. We simply manifest it in different ways. I encourage this type of transformative growth in my preaching and teaching and in my work with other believers. Please look around my website. It's primarily a resource for church-based information: sermons, bible studies, handouts, etc. You may begin by listening to my most recent sermon at the top of this page or at my Sermons Blog, where you can receive the sermon as a podcast or download it. In 2009, my summer assistant and I wrote a little book that corresponded to our summer preaching series on the Gospel of Matthew called ?This or That.? The sermon series focused on the choices Jesus called us to, so our book was written in a Choose Your Own Adventure style. Called This or That: A Day in YOUR Life, the book called readers to make choices according to their understanding of Christianity. Some choices exposed self-righteous attitudes; other choices drew readers deeper into the life of Jesus. A PDF copy of this book is available here. On my regular blog I post any articles, thoughts, or handouts that don't fit somewhere else on my website! Please use my contact page to reach me with any questions. | Hoover, Jeremy (I1126473)

| 5268 | Joseph Willick [Willig], born in the Elsass, came to Canada with a birth certificate issued by the French Republic with the remarkable date, 23 Pluviôse 13. The location was reported as K?stlach Commune in the Canton of Ferrette in the Department of Haut-Rhin, Alsace. In standard terms this translates into 12 February 1805. Lewis J. Burkholder, the Mennonite historian who published the book, A Brief History of the Mennonites in Ontario, 1935, wrote about Joseph Willick. Joseph joined the local Mennonites when he developed convictions against serving in the military. Burkholder states Joseph Willick served the Mennonites as a deacon and held meetings in a schoolhouse near his home along the Sodom Road. David Habecker from New York, a Mennonite minister, served with Joseph Willick in this small congregation, but it was disbanded by the late 19th century. Joseph's brother, Nicholas Jr., also left the Roman Catholic church and joined the Evangelische Gemeinschaft (German Methodists). . | Willick, Joseph (I23579)

| 5295 | Menno Hoover, a born poet, found it easy to write how he felt. Unfortunately not much of his work remains, and, as it often goes with genuine artists, he was not always well understood in his own time. This he describes in a poem: My Inferiority Complex I feel myself inferior compared to other men I'll go up to Lake Superior and curl up in my den. For years now I've been striving to make a thousand bucks, While other men go driving cars and motor trucks. They pass me in the morning as I walk to where I work A cigar their face adorning they pull up with a jerk, Climb in old neighbour, and rest your weary bones! You must be getting tired from walking on the stones. I hear their money rattle in their fancy Sunday pants While I am feeding cattle for my uncles and my aunts. They dress their daughters up in togs that make a queen look cheap While the gowns mine wear when feeding hogs would make a bull-dog weep. They send their children off to school in the most expensive furs While mine are dressed in homespun wool, their stockings full of burs. So when my children all move on and I am left alone And I have once more mowed the lawn, then I'll call them up by phone, I'm going up to Lake Superior, I don't want to cause offence It's because I feel inferior as compared to other gents!? | Hoover, Menno (I320490)

| 5298 | Minister JACOB LEPP A senior minister of the Brethren Church fell asleep in the Lord on September 11, 1968, in Saskatoon, Jacob Lepp was born in the village of Kleefeld, South Russia on October 7, 1873, the son of John and Susanna (nee Thiessen) Lepp. When he was four the family moved to the United States and settled near Mountain Lake, Minn. Those were difficult years for the Mennonite immigrants, travel was slow and farming primitive, and Jacob Lepp's schooling concluded when he was 14 years and consisted of only 16 months. At the age of 17 he was converted and eight months later he was baptized upon his confession of faith and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church. As a young man, he accepted the invitation of neighbours to become a private school teacher to their children. He did this for three years. For most of his life he was a farmer. He was married three times, first to Helena Wiens, who died after four and a half years of marriage from tuberculosis. Three children were born of this union of which one died in infancy. A second marriage, to Maria Sperling, was blessed with eight children of which four survived infancy. After 12 years this marriage partner was also taken away by death. In 1913 he married a third time, to Katharina Klassen, who survives him, a marriage that God blessed with 11 children, three of whom died in infancy. As a young married man, Jacob Lepp moved to Dalmeny, Sask. with his family. Here he was chosen to assist in the ministry, ordained in 1905, and chosen to the leadership of the church in 1907. For 34 years he led the Dalmeny Church in the pastoral ministry. Though he retired from active farm life in 1947, he continued to enjoy good physical health and his love for Bible reading, Sunday school and the church remained strong. Family and friends loved to bask in his godly counsel and insight. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Katharina; seven sons, Cornelius J. Jacob M., Ernest, David L. and Waldo of Dalmeny, Menno of Gouldtown, Sask., Albert of Reedley, Calif.; seven daughters, Mrs. John E. (Helena) Quiring of Saskatoon, Mrs. John P.
