I have been the minister at the Otisville Church of Christ in Otisville, Michigan since December 2011. My main responsibilities are preaching and teaching and to help with spiritual and leadership development. My sermons are available each week on my blog.

I grew up in Windsor, Ontario where I learned the faith at the Westside Church of Christ. There, I cut my teeth in ministry during my high school years through song leading, leading at the Lord's Supper table, and teaching and preaching. I was fortunate to learn from, and later to work with, a great group of elders that included my grandfather and also my father.
I was educated at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. At Rochester College I met my wife, Devon. We married in 1999 after I graduated summa cum laude in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in religious education. After our wedding, we moved to Memphis, Tennessee so I could attend the Harding Graduate School of Religion (1999-2001). During this time, Devon worked to support us while I studied for two years focusing on the study of homiletics (preaching).
When our time in Memphis was over, we moved to St. Joseph, Michigan, where I worked in youth ministry with the Church of Christ in St. Joseph (2001-2003). There, I organized and led a start-up youth ministry. Following this, we moved back to Windsor because of a family illness. While in Windsor, I served as an assistant minister for the Westside Church of Christ (2004-2005), where I organized and guided a small-groups ministry.
When the time was right, we moved to Jackson, Michigan to work with the Horton Road Church of Christ. Additionally, while in Jackson, I taught two semesters of "Introduction to Youth Ministry" at Rochester College (in 2006 and 2008).
In October 2011 I accepted an offer to work with the Otisville Church of Christ as their preacher.
I seek to be transformative in my preaching by staying close to the gospel and to the biblical text while demonstrating how the world and story of the bible is at work in our world today. I apply the bible by inviting listeners to enter into the story of the bible that God is calling them to. One writer has called the bible a ?five-act drama? of which we only have the first four acts; we must improvise the fifth based on our knowledge of the first four dramatic acts. I seek to elaborate and encourage this in my preaching.
My ministry philosophy is to be as simple as possible in following Jesus. I want to follow him, not tradition. I want my faith to be focused on Jesus and daily growth and transformation, to build Christian friendships of mutual encouragement and love, and to be a servant to others so they can see, learn, and love the light of Jesus. I believe this is the one calling for all Christians. We simply manifest it in different ways. I encourage this type of transformative growth in my preaching and teaching and in my work with other believers.

In 2009, my summer assistant and I wrote a little book that corresponded to our summer preaching series on the Gospel of Matthew called ?This or That.? The sermon series focused on the choices Jesus called us to, so our book was written in a Choose Your Own Adventure style. Called This or That: A Day in YOUR Life, the book called readers to make choices according to their understanding of Christianity. Some choices exposed self-righteous attitudes; other choices drew readers deeper into the life of Jesus. A PDF copy of this book is available here.
