Besides the large two-center-pole tent were there three smaller tents - one for eating, the others for sleeping quarters for the workers. Food was supplied by donations in kind from the local people and by invitations to meals. Coal oil lamps provided the lighting at night and boards served for seats (later tent campaigns would use canvas seats). Assisting Whisler was a complement of "worker" - John Nigh (who shared in the preaching), Fidella Nigh (song leader), Ethel Hallman (from Ohio), Sarah Climenhaga (from Bertie), and Jemima Elliot (Fred's wife, recently become a widow). These workers visited in the community, prayed eanestly for the success of the revival in workers' prayer meetings, and by their presence and spiritual singing helped to add to the revivalistic tone of the meeting. In personal and physical arrangements, this first tent meeting set the tone for many others that followed, at Cheapside and elsewhere. | Knisley, Jemima (I02367)

| 1611 | John and Jane Dennis and their daughter Sophia on Lot 20, Concession 1, Walpole during the War of 1812, living on land belonging to Captain William Francis who was murdered in October of 1814, gave the following deposition: District Of London Personally appeared before us George C Salmon Esquire and Thomas Bowlby Esquire two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the London District and Province of Upper Canada John Dennis, Jane Dennis and Sophia Dennis, who being duly Sworn, make Oath and say that they are now living on a Farm which belonged to the late Captain William Francis and have lived on the same since the month of April last, that during that period they have frequently heard of a gang of Robbers called Dixon's Party. That sometime about the middle of the month of October last, three men came to this house at about ten o'clock in the night, Armed, and asked if Captain Francis was there; that one of the Deponents Jane Dennis told him to go to his house and look (meaning a new building formerly occupied by the said Captain Francis) that in the mean time Captain Francis, who was in bed when they first came to the house, got up and walked over the floor, by which means these Deponents suppose they discovered him, that one of the party called to him & asked if he was there, that Captain Francis answered he was, and asked what they wanted with him, that they replied that they wanted to kill him, that Captain Francis requested of them not to take his life, and that he would go with them if they would only spare his life, that they heard the report of a gun out of the door and heard something fall on the floor above stairs where Captain Francis was. That one of the party took a stick of wood which was on fire and went upstairs, and when he came down heard him tell the rest of the party that Captain Francis was dead, and with his hands shewed on his head where he had been shot, that they left the corpse in the house that they refused to allow these Deponents to take the body out of the house or bury him. That they said it was lucky for Thomas Francis that he was not there or he should have met the same fate and that there were several people in the Province that should meet the same fate also, and that the Deponents verily believed that the party consisted of John Dixon, Henry Dockstader but they cannot tell, neither do they know who the third person was. | 1617 | John JAQUES was born in 1795 in Murton, Westmorland, England, the son of Christopher JAQUES and Hanna BELLAS. He brought his wife, Margaret FOSSETT and seven of his nine grown children to Pittsburgh in 1848, sailing on the "Ship of Rome". They later went to Buffalo briefly, where Margaret died in 1852. Soon after the family moved to Canada, arriving at Hamilton, Ontario on Easter Sunday, they lived for a time at York, then purchased a farm at Jarvis from Cornelius Smith. John Jaques died soon after in the same year as his wife's death. He was living at the newly-purchased Smith farm in Walpole Township when he died and he was buried at Saint John's in Woodhouse Township, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. John Jaques' children, Samuel, Joseph, and Mary Jaques stayed on the farm for a few years, but about 1860 they began to branch out for themselves. John's son John had stayed behind in England, but joined the rest of the family in 1867. His descendants still live in Norfolk Co., mostly in or near Simcoe. John's son Anthony married Elizabeth ATKINSON, daughter of James ATKINSON and Mary DAWSON of Oneida Twp., in 1860 at York, Oneida Twp. Anthony settled near Jarvis, first on the Haldimand side in Walpole Twp., and later moving to Woodhouse Twp. in Norfolk. | Jaques, John (I18202)

| 1618 | John Marius Wilson, Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales (1870-72) WYERSDALE (Over), a township-chapelry in Lancaster parish, Lancashire; on the river Wyre, 4¾ miles E by N of Bay-Horse railway station, and 7 SE of Lancaster. Post town, Lancaster. Acres, 16,938. Real property, £4,728. Pop. in 1851, 680; in 1861, 524. Houses, 90. The decrease of population arose from the destruction, by fire, of a cotton factory. The manor belongs to H. Garnett, Esq. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester. Value, £170. Patron, the Vicar of Lancaster. The church is plain. There are Quaker and Wesleyan chapels, and an endowed school. Consists of - Tarnbrook, Dukenshaw Fell, Lee Fell, Abbeystead, Lentworth Vachery(Contains Borwicks and Lentworth Hall), Ortner Vachery, Greenbank Vachery, Hays Haw Fell, Catshaw Vachery, Hawthornthwaite Vachery, Emmetts Vachery, Marshaw Fell Christ Church, Over Wyresdale stands in an isolated position to the west of the village of Abbeystead, Lancashire, England. The church is a Grade II listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Blackburn, the archdeaconry of Lancaster and the deanery of Lancaster. Its benefice is combined with those of St Mark's, Dolphinholme and St Peter's, Quernmore. The church dates from 1733 and it was restored in 1894 by John Douglas who added a spire to the tower and built a new chancel. It is built in sandstone rubble with slate roofs and consists of a west tower, a nave with a lower chancel, a south porch, and a north vestry. The pulpit is dated 1684. OVER WYERSDALE - a chapelry, in the parish and union of Lancaster, hundred of Lonsdale south of the Sands, N. division of Lancashire, 6 miles (N. N. E.) from Garstang; containing 679 inhabitants. This is part of the ancient forest of Lancaster; and at the Conquest is supposed to have been divided into twelve portions, and to have been given to twelve soldiers as a reward for their services. It is difficult to distinguish it in ancient records from Nether Wyersdale, in Amounderness; what is said of that township, so far as respects the descent of property, will in a great measure apply to Over Wyersdale. The district comprises about 16,600 acres, the greater portion of which is meadow and pasture; part of it is mountain, from which the most extensive views are obtained. The river Wyre or Wyer takes its rise from the mountain dells here. The living is a perpetual curacy; net income, £135; patron, the Vicar of Lancaster. The present chapel was erected in 1843, at a cost of £1000, and is a neat structure. William Cawthorne, in 1683, gave a school-house, with a messuage, some land, and a rent-charge of £15, for which 30 boys are instructed; and another school has an allowance of £20 per annum from the Society of Friends. A colony of Cistercian monks from Furness settled here, at Abbeystead, for a short time, before the year 1188, when they removed to Ireland, and founded Wythney Abbey. NETHER WYERSDALE - a township, in the parish and union of Garstang, hundred of Amounderness, N. division of Lancashire, 4 miles (N. N. E.) from Garstang; containing 762 inhabitants. In the 12th century, Wyersdale was part of the possessions of the Lancasters: in the reign of Philip and Mary, John Rigmayden held the manor; and in 1605 it was held by the Gerards, of Bromley. The property afterwards passed to the family of the present Duke of Hamilton. The ancestors of the late John Fenton Cawthorne, Esq., M. P. for Lancaster, are said to have held a portion of Wyersdale for six or seven hundred years; and George III. once contemplated the revival of the barony of Wyersdale in the person of Mr. Cawthorne, whom he intended to create lord Wyersdale. The township comprises 6349 acres, and forms a very mountainous district. The scenery on the banks of the Wyre or Wyer, as the river flows along the valley, being varied by hills and ridges skirted with wood, is both bold and beautiful. Cotton and worsted spinning affords employment to the villagers of Scorton and Dolphinholme. Wyreside, an elegant mansion, has long been the residence of the Cawthorne family. Here is also the seat of Robert Garnett, Esq. The Wesleyans have a place of worship. On the 1851 Census of Borwicks, Over Wyresdale, Lancashire, England are:Thomas Pye, Head, Married, Aged 31, Male, Farmer of 31 Acres of Land, Born O. | 1620 | JOHN RAYMOND KNISTER Canadian Author and Journalist. He was a novelist, short story writer, poet, critic and journalist who died in a swimming accident on Lake St. Clair at age 33. The son of Robert and Elizabeth (nee Banks), Knister is considered to be one of the first modern writers in Canada, both in his Imagist poetry and in his experimental techniques of his short stories and novels. Born at Ruscomb, Ontario, near Windsor, Raymond attended the University of Toronto and Iowa State University. Raymond married Myrtle Gamble (1901-1995) on June 18, 1927; they had one child, Imogen, who is now Imogen Givens. Some years after Raymond's death, Myrtle remarried becoming Myrtle Grace. Knister's life was short but he wrote and left behind a great deal of material. He was a professional writer, so he had to write full time to survive. "White Narcissus," a novel, and "Canadian Short Stories," a collection of short stories he edited were published during his lifetime. "My Star Predominant", a biography of John Keats, won first prize of $2,500.00 in a cross-Canada novel contest in 1931. It was published posthumously in 1934 in England and in Canada. He was a friend and contemporary of Morley Callaghan, Leo Kennedy, A. J. M. Smith and many others of the 1920's and 1930's. Knister lived first in Essex and Kent Counties in Ontario at Comber, Cedar Springs and Northwood, and later in Iowa City, Chicago, Toronto, Port Dover and the last year of his life was spent in Montreal. His grave is at Port Dover. He is the 23rd most anthologized Canadian writer, ahead of Emily Carr and Robertson Davies. Although Knister's life was brief, he left behind a legacy of writing still being read today. - bio by Clarence Morris | Knister, John Raymond (I16982)

I say this because I have one of the few copies of the Kaake book. It was compiled over many years by a Kaake who lives (if indeed he is still alive) in Western Canada. The darned thing is an honest two inches thick of 8X11 pages and hardbound. It covers not only Rebecca and her descendents but those of her 16 brothers and sisters as well. Peter, the author, has almost all of my information in that book. You could not duplicate his efforts, starting from scratch, in a year (or maybe ten) I am sure. I am assuming here that the contents are not already on line, of coarse. I also have detailed work on these families done by a lady from Barrie about a decade ago. Plus I have ALL of my own materials on hard copy. If you are doing this for someone else when it is already done I suggest that there must be an easier way." | Kaake, Andrew (I12869)
