Notes
Obituary: Joel G. Weaver
Mr. Joel G. Weaver, a native of the Selkirk area, passed away at his home in Selkirk on Sunday, August 20, 1967, in his 89th year. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jess Weaver of Cheapside. As a young man, Mr. Weaver homesteaded in the Canadian West, returning to his native community in 1918, where he continued to farm until his retirement some seventeen years ago. Always a devoted father, Mr. Weaver leaves to mourn their loss, seven sons and three daughters, Vernon and Leslie of Walpole, Cecil of Selkirk, Russell, Glen, Charles and Donald of Nanticoke, Mrs. Don Thurston (Mabel) of Welland, Mrs. Ivan McKenzie (Reta) of Nanticoke, and Mrs. Bruce Awde (Mary) of Hagersville. Also surviving are 42 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Weaver, the former Nellie Gee, predeceased him in 1964, as did a son, Clifford, in 1955. The funeral was held from the Weiderick-Yeates Funeral Home, Fisherville, on Wednesday, August 23, the Rev. Paul Nigh officiating. Interment was made in the Selkirk Union Cemetery, the pallbearers being his seven sons. Six grandsons carried the floral tributes.
