    • REUBEN GREEN was a sergeant in the 1st battalion of New Jersey volunteers. He settled in Townsend in 1811, receiving from the
      Government a grant of 500 acres, on the 7th May of that year, as a military claimant.

      Two of his daughters also received grants of land:

      "Elizabeth, wife of John Dickson, daughter of Reuben Green, two hundred acres in Townsend, 23rd December, 1815."

      "Phoebe, wife of Jonathan Silverthorne, two hundred acres in Townsend, 23rd December, 1815."

      "His Excellency the Lt. Governor informed the board that a recent communication has been made to him from respectable Authority, that the family of Reuben Green of Woodhouse in the District of London have so late as 5 Jany Inst. received grants as Sons & Daughters Children of a U. E. notwithstanding The said R. Green joined the enemy during the late war & was killed at Sugar Loaf in arms against his Majesty after having burned and plundered the house of Cpt. Wm. Francis and murdered him in the Defense of it - and I request the advice of council as to what recourse if any he is __ to adopt to avert a similar __ in future. "

      Wherefore the Council unanimously recommend that no petitions from Sons or Daughters of U. E. Loyalists be hereafter given without certificate signed by the Chairman and Clerk of the Peace that the parent retained his loyalty during

      late war & was under no suspicion for aiding or assisting the enemy and if a Son that he also was loyal during the late war and did his duty and in Defense of the Province and if a daughter of a U. E. Loyalist married that her husband was loyal and did his duty in Defense of the Province.
