From a February 2011 Simcoe Reformer column by Keith AshleyJackson's Pharmacy on the corner of Robinson and Kent Street (currently occupied by the Gospel Lighthouse). Across from the pharmacy was Bonaccorso's Fruit Market. It was a mainstay on that corner for many years. Later it was the home for Rudy Halmo Jewellery store. Moving south we come to the Tartan Restaurant. It was run by the Cross family and was one of the finer eateries in town. Just a store south was Martin's Smoke and Barbershop. Bill Martin was involved in many aspects of Simcoe life, from sports to politics, and between Bill and Morley Spicer gave haircuts to thousands of Simcoe residents. Across the street stood Sutton's Wholesale and a taxi company. I think it might have been Coates Taxi. South of the Tartan was the old Lyric Theatrewith a lady who played the piano during the old silent movies. Later the theatre became a hardware store owned by Wally Winter.
