WILLIAM MILLS LAING
It appears that William Mills Laing was the son of Thomas Mills and Agnes Ellison. On the 1861 Census he is Will Mills living with Andw and Jane Langs, on the 1871 Census he is William M. Laing living with Andrew Laing and Jane Ellison Laing, when he marries he says he is the son of Thomas and Agnes Mills, at his death his son says he is the son of Robert Mills and Miss Ellison. It looks as though he was raised by his mother's sister and her husband Andrew Laing, and eventually was adopted by them or at least took the surname Laing. William Laing's occupation is always listed as a miller.
