Jay Quider committed suicide. An inquest was opened into his death. In the newspaper it states that Mrs. Quider (Ida) testified that her husband was suffering from mental derangement. He imagined his family was at the point of starvation and he was unable to support them. when there was really $40 of his money in Major Carpenter's hands (Jay's employer), which the deceased did not need. The jurors brought in a verdict that Quider committed suicide while laboring under severe mental derangement. It also states that Jay Quider was Temporarily Insane when he hung himself in Major Carpenter's barn.
