Drake Division Registrar of South Cayuga Herald of Truth Obituaries August 1895 - HOOVER. ­ On the 17th of July, 1895, in South Cayuga, Ont., of heart failure and dropsy, David Hoover, aged 79 y., 9 mo., 11 d. He was buried on the 19th in the Mennonite graveyard. Funeral sermon by Gilbert Bearss. Text, Matt. 24: 44. He was born in York township, was converted to God in his young years and joined the Mennonite church and often spoke of his bright experience at that time, but he did not hold out faithful, and like many others, became more careless, until the last few years of his life he consecrated himself anew to the Lord. We believe he has found sweet peace. He suffered over four months, and yet it seemed hard to part with our grandfather. We miss him in church and more so in our family circle. A. Drake Division Registrar of South Cayuga DAVID HOOVER HOUSE Circa 1865 Lot 15 Concession 7, South Cayuga Township. David Hoover (1815-1895) was the son of Ludwig Huber's grandson Christian/Christopher (1784-1859) and Maria Troyer (1789-1884), daughter of Christian Troyer. He came with his first wife Barbara Wismer (1817-1863) from York County, Ontario to South Cayuga Township as early as 1851. In both 1851 and 1861 David and Barbara were living in a one storey frame house said to be the garage behind the present house. The later brick house was built in two parts, the west part about 1865, the east part being built somewhat later. Many of David and Barbara's descendants are still in the area, some being members of Hoover Heritage Association (From Hoover Heritage Calendar July 2001 - December 2002)
