About 1900 George and Sarah's son George Mitchell Jr. (1867-1951) who had married Mary Jane Ryerse (1868) took up residence at the Dog's Nest Inn, but did not operate it. They had three children at the time, namely: Leo Mitchell (1889-1967), and two daughters, Pearl (1891-1908) and Minerva (1894-1981). The next child Millis Mitchell (1902) was born at the Dog's Nest. While Millis was still a small baby George and Mary Jane purchased the farm on Lot 16, Concession 5 of Woodhouse Twp. As they moved in the dead of winter, the story is told of the coal-burning stove being transported to their farm house on the sleighs and, on arrival, being set up again without disturbing the banked bed of glowing coals burning undisturbed inside it. Here their youngest daughter Marie Mitchell (1908) was born.
