      TERRIBLE BURNS CAUSE DEATH
George Walter Neff, 52, aged 52 years and 8 months, died Tuesday at the Welland Hospital as the result of terrible burns which he suffered while working at the Cement Works on Monday the 14th, about 2:30 p.m. On account of him being so seriously injured it was found necessary to keep Mr. Neff at the first aid hospital at work until Friday afternoon, when he was removed to the hospital in Welland. The late Mr. Neff lived in Port Colborne and Humberstone during the last nineteen years. He was married thirty years ago. He is survived by his widow; three sons, Leslie, Frank and Nelson at home and two daughters, Mrs. Jones Roberts of Humberstone and Jennie at home; four brothers, Ellis of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Elisha and Elmer of Hamilton and Douglas of Cleveland; and two sisters, Mrs. D. A. Furry of Nagara Falls, N.Y. and Mrs. Grant Michener of Lowbanks. The funersl was held Thursday, Feb. 26 from the family residence, Ash Street at 1:00 o'clock, where service was held. Interment at Mennonite Cemetery, Sherkston. When he received his injuries which caused his death Mr. Neff was engaged in cleaning out a feed screwer which conveys pulverized coal to the kilns. The conveyor had become clogged by a piece of coal and Mr. Neff was on a ladder about eight feet from the floor and had just completed his task when the flames of burnt coal dust swept down upon him. It is presumed that a spontaneous combustion explosion was the original cause of the fire. Mr. Neff was thrown to the floor from the ladder and in his endeavour to make his escape from the building, struck his head on an overhead bar and was thrown back into the flames. He was rescued by fellow workers. He was terribly burned from his waist down to his feet and from his back to the top of his head.
