Obituary -
Mrs. Joel G. Weaver - After a short illness in the War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville, Mrs. Joel G. Weaver, of Selkirk, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 1964, in her 77th year. The former Nellie Beatrice Gee, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Mary Gee, and was born in Rainham Township on June 13, 1887. On April 7, 1909, she was united in marriage with Joel Glover Weaver at Wilkie, Sask., where they continued to reside until 1918 when they moved to the Selkirk area. Mrs. Weaver was a faithful worker in the Evangelical United Brethern Church and also took an active interest in community affairs. Surviving are her husband and seven sons and three daughters: Vernon and Leslie, of Walpole; Cecil, of Selkirk; Russell, Glen, Charles and Donald of Nanticoke; Mrs. Don Thurston (Mabel) of Welland; Mrs. Ivan McKenzie (Reta) of Nanticoke; Mrs. Bruce Awde (Mary) of Hagersville. A son Clifford Roy, predeceased his mother on August 13, 1955, losing his life in the hurricane "Connie". Also surviving are 40 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a brother, Joseph Gee, of Rainham Township. Mrs. Weaver rested at the Weiderick-Yeates Funeral Home, Fisherville, until Saturday noon, thence to the Evangelical United Brethern Church, Selkirk where service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. James Bechtel. During the service Mr. Ephraim Nablo sang "Going Home". Interment was made in Selkirk Union Cemetery, the pallbearers being six sons; Vernon, Cecil, Russell, Glen, Donald and Charles. Flower bearers were grandchildren, Gerald McKenzie, Douglas Weaver, Larry Weaver and Robert Awde. The floral tributes and memorial donations to the building fund showed the high esteem in which Mrs. Weaver was held throughout the community.
