  From: The Sherk Family by Thomas A. Sherk: Richard Sherk was born and raised in Rainham Township, Haldimand County, Ontario. His father's farm was located on Lot 19 in the 2nd Concession. He was known to the people of the area as Richard Sherk. As an adult he engaged in farming, residing on his father's place after his father's death. He raised his family there. He was active in the community, serving on the township council from 1916 to 1925, and from 1925 to 1930 he was the Reeve of Rainham Township. In 1930 he was the Warden of Haldimand County.
