From: The Sherk Family by Thomas A. Sherk:
Herbert was known to his friends affectionately as Hub. He resided in Rainham Township, Haldimand County, Ontario. He had one child who died at birth, and also an adopted son named Martin. He died tragically in an automobile accident when his car was hit by a train at a railroad crossing near Stevensville, Ontario. Herbert's brother, Andrew Sherk, grandfather of the author, was a passenger in the car at the time of the accident. Andrew managed to jump clear of the car seconds before it was hit by the train, thereby saving his life. Herbert and Elizabeth are buried in the Sweets Corners Christian Cemetery in Rainham Township, Haldimand County.
