      It appears Thomas Goodwin owned a hotel in Cheapside from 1871 to 1878. He sold in 1878 and in the 1879 Historical Atlas of Haldimand County he has a business card - Union Hotel, Hagersville, Thos. Goodwin, Proprietor. Also with the 1879 birth of his son William Wallace he is Thomas Goodwin, Hotel Keeper, Hagersville. He is there on the 1881 and 1891 census, but by 1901 he is in Hamilton with Mary Ann and his two youngest children, sons Charles and William.
