  • Notes

    • On the 1852 Census of Gainsborough, Lincoln, Canada West are:
Henry Gee, Born United States, No Religion, Married, Aged 65
Susan Gee, Born United States, No Religion, Married, Aged 64
Henry Gee, Born Upper Canada, No Religion, Single, Aged 23

"Folklore tells us of a dreadful hardship during this period so Jonathan and his brother Henry left the Twenty Mile Creek area to seek their fortunes in the frontier area being opened up to the west. Jonathan Gee settled in Haldimand County in 1833, while his brother Henry went further west and settled at Silver Hill in Walsingham Township (west of Simcoe in Norfolk County). The 1877 Atlas shows his sons Peter and John farming in this area."

This is not proven, and by Jonathan Gee's 1838 will he leaves land in Gainsborough to his children, so likely it was not Jonathan and Henry who came to Norfolk County, but possibly one of their sons.
