  From Ezra E. Eby's 1895 History of Waterloo County: Magdalena Keller was born January 29th, 1819 in York County, Pennsylvania and came to Canada with her parents in May 1826. On May 2nd, 1837, she was married to Dennis Devitt who was raised by old David Shantz who lived on Lot No. 1, German Company's Tract, about one mile south-east of Berlin. After their marriage they resided about eighteen months with old David Shantz, then they moved on their farm four miles west of Berlin, on the Petersburg Road, where they resided 36 years. He was born August 18th, 1813 and died July 1st, 1880. She is still hale and hearty and resides in Berlin in the company of her youngest daughter who is unmarried. They had a family of thirteen children all of whom arrived at maturity. Their names are David, Joseph, Moses, Elizabeth, Dennis, William, Barbara, Magdalena, John, Isaac, Aaron, Sarah and Emily.
